Live Oak, Santa Cruz

Santa Cruz is a County of great diversity with mountains and redwood forests, fine beaches, boat harbor, university and junior college, fine restaurants, great cultural activities and an eclectic population that believes that this is truly Paradise!

Situated in the heart of paradise is Live Oak, extending roughly from the Santa Cruz Yacht Harbor along the ocean to Opal Cliffs and 41st Avenue and and up to the main artery of Capitola Road. Some of the areas finest beaches are found in Live Oak and while Pleasure Point has its own name, it really is a part of the Live Oak area. It is known among surfers as one of the prime surfing spots along the coast. Families have been coming to the beaches in The Avenues (12,13, 14, 16th Avenue), Johann’s Beach, Black’s Beach and Sunnycove Beach for generations and little has changed in their appeal to a new generation.

The area is well endowed with public parks, tennis courts and playgrounds. Arana Gulch is a protected area of trails accessed from the north end of the harbor. Homes range from the very expensive located right on the ocean, to the more modest older homes. Up until the 1930’s, this area’s main source of income was from poultry farms. Later, these gave way to the growing of bulb flowers such as begonias. As the population of Santa Cruz increased, the land became more valuable as residential sites. Now these farms have been developed into small housing tracts providing newer, larger homes at an affordable price.
